BACK IN THE DAY

Here's a little historical fun fact about slang. "Back in the day," it wasn't acceptable to say, “I swear,” but it was quite acceptable to say, “I swan or I'll swan.” I know this to be true because my grandmother used that exact phrase when someone would tell her something interesting or share a tidbit worthy of raising her eyebrows. I can't count the many times I heard her say, “Well, I swan.”
